Ok, so you’re ready to start with an eco-friendly landscape design.  But how do you get started?  If you’re working with a professional like Native Earth Designs, then you will have all the expertise and guidance needed to create an enjoyable outdoor space that is also friendly to the natural environment.

But if you want to get started now, you can begin with some small steps by looking for products with certain labels.  Here’s a sample of these certifications from the US Environmental Protection Agency.

BioPreferred

Managed by the US Department of Agriculture, “biobased products” are determined as – (A) composed, in whole or in significant part, of biological products, including renewable domestic agricultural materials, renewable chemicals, and forestry materials; or (B) an intermediate ingredient or feedstock.

Safer Choice

Safer Choice is an EPA Pollution Prevention program, which includes practices that reduce, eliminate, or prevent pollution at its source, such as using safer ingredients in products.

SmartWay

EPA’s SmartWay program helps companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency.

WaterSense

The WaterSense label makes it simple to find water-efficient products, new homes, and programs that meet EPA’s criteria for efficiency and performance. WaterSense-labeled products and services are certified to use at least 20 percent less water, save energy, and perform as well as or better than regular models.

These are just some of the many certifications that will help you select products for your outdoor spaces that are considered earth-friendly.  And if you have questions or want a professional opinion, contact us at Native Earth Designs.
